Dynamics Of Religious Tolerance Formation In The Process Of Student Socialization

Abstract

This paper examines the social-psychological dynamics through which religious tolerance is formed among students in the course of their socialization within the higher education environment. Integrating intergroup contact theory, social identity theory, and cognitive-moral developmental theory, the study analyzes how sustained peer interaction, curricular exposure to religious and cultural diversity, and participa- tion in interfaith or intercultural student initiatives shape the trajectory of tolerance-re- lated attitudes across the years of study. The research synthesizes empirical evidence from developmental and social psychology to propose a conceptual model describing the stages and conditions under which religious tolerance is consolidated or, converse- ly, remains unstable. Findings indicate that structured, equal-status intergroup contact combined with institutional support produces measurably stronger and more durable gains in religious tolerance than passive exposure to diversity alone.
